UC Forum's topic this wednesday from 12-1pm: “The How of Hope” = Shane J. Lopez, PhD, Gallup Senior Scientist. Building on CR Snyder's research on hope, Lopez describes how investing in tomorrow pays off today. He weaves research findings with local stories to demonstrate how hope works and can be spread.

Faith Forum: A Liberating Take on Christianity

Students, faculty, staff and community members gather on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:15 for conversation on how the Christian faith can be understood as a way to be engaged in society and care for one another and the earth.

When you come to a Faith Forum we begin with a meal, and share how our “weather” is (what is going on in our lives) as a voluntary way to touch base and welcome new participants.  The presentations are always a way to increase our dialogue on a theme and the presenter is someone who has attended regularly. The reflections will have specific questions facilitating our conversation. The faith forum aspires to the practice of listening to others, regardless of differences. Dialogue and not debate is the intention of the series and there is no requirement with a faith tradition to participate.

Come for a light meal and dialogue on a progressive, alternative understanding of spirituality in today's world.

Please bring a small  contribution  for dinner:$3 students,$5 others.

Last semester we explored "The Historical Jesus."

We explored what it meant to be a Jew within the Roman Empire.  John Dominic Crossan, a leading scholar on the historical Jesus, led us in exploring the challenge of “matrix” ie. “everything you must know to understand Jesus in his own time and place before it is possible to understand him in ours.”

Crossan was joined by Marcus Borg.  Together they engaged us in understanding this matrix through short video presentations.
